A simple adjustment won't fix a gummed up carb, There's a difference between a carb rebuild and a carb restore, a restore will look like a new carb.

a restore will look like a new carb
like in painted?

i went through my carb. put whatever new parts that came with the mercruiser carb kit in it. soaked it in carb cleaner twice, soap and watered + scrubbed it twice, compressed air dried twice. tested float to see if it leaked, set to oem specs.. didn't paint it. looks iffy to say the least, runs great.. so is mine restored or rebuilt.. rebuilt since i didn't paint it i suppose. is there more to a restore than it looks good above a rebuilt?

i think it'd be hard to tell from the outside if a carb was rebuilt, restored. i'd think bondo is ontoit... it runs... or in my case, where it ran before, after a rebuild it runs better.. ya can't see the internal parts that were replaced w/o going and looking, even then i'd bet it'd be hard to tell since they'd have been used some prior to the inspection. + if ya break it apart, ya need new gaskets at the very least, everytime...

Restore services include dichromate dipping of all the plated parts looks like a brand new carb when finished.

Well actually yes I would have to say restoration will save a carb, if you have a carb that has had corrosion start to happen on the inside of the bowls where it leaves that white powdery residue, you can clean it but it will just keep comming back, the dichomate coating get everywhere inside passages and out, the parts go through a whole bunch of processes.
The cost of this service could cover buying a new though. I've had two carbs done, one was a Ford Galaxy 427 3x2 carb, the other is a Ford holley 427 4 bbl. Both vintage and irrrepalcable. The service was performed by Holley and was around 600.00 per carb. The triple deuce carb was so bad that inside the bowls were full of corrosion and had pitting, I'm sure I could have rebuilt the carb and made it work again but I wanted it restored.
As far as it performing any better I don't know, but the restoration does include flow testing.

Rather than rebuilding and going through all the hassle, a new Edlebrock, 1409, I think, would run sweet and last a long time.
