Is there a Sierra or other aftermarket sending unit that will work in this motor? Merc part number is 15995, but it is $62. I was hoping there was something a little cheaper out there. The Sierra guy told me that his only work with Sierra gauges.

By the way, I need this part because I spun the small end while trying to get the little nut and wire off.

Re: Merc 470 (3.7) Temperature Sending Unit

I replaced my malfunctioning unit (Merc - 470) last year. I was never able to find a sending unit that worked properly with the original Merc gauge. Had to replace both gauge and sending unit, as they are a match. Bought a Sunpro set - gauge and sending unit - and they work just fine. The Sunpro fit right into the cutout and there was no difficulty with the installation. Checked gauge accuracy with an infa-red pyrometer and it's within 5 degrees F through the operating range.

Google it for best price/delivery, etc.

Bummer. Sounds more expensive than just dropping the $60 for the OEM part. That was an expensive turn of the wrench.

False alarm. The old sensor works just fine. Ran it on muffs and it got to about 140 in 10 minutes and stayed there, just like usual.
