Merc 470 170hp for Imperial

[85imperial]

#1 Can anyone tell me how to pull the front pully/stator/alt assembly from the crank?
#2 Can the pistons be cleaned and reused?
#3 Can I reuse the rockers and pushrods?, and clean and reuse the lifters?
Anyone know or could point direction on where to find details or history on boat?
85 Imperial VC230 cuddy cabin (funny looking transome)
1 Engine serial # B517271, 165hp. Have 170hp in the boat #A634829, presently that's locked up. Also ave C engine for extra parts.
Have alternator converson kit and 4" heat exchanger that came with the boat to solve know issues hope there's no more than that to deal with.(lol)
Just bought boat in hopes to swap out and hit the water for the summer.
Heard good & bad about these engines, tring to stay optomistic, plan to make this one purrr.

1. There's a special tool for that, look in the "adults only" section. From there you can download the service manual for your engine and read about all the fun special tools you have to buy to service that engine.

2. sure can, mark them as they come out. or better yet, buy a micrometer and a dial bore gauge. that way you can fit everything when it comes to re-assembly time.

3. sure can, but there's another special tool you have to buy to set the valve lash on that motor.

Welcome to iBoats!.....

Well, if you haven't spent anything on the 470 engines yet, you might be money ahead to part out all the 470/3.7L engine stuff and find yourself a truck 350 V-8 or V-6 and scrounge the other marine stuff to put it in there in place of what you currently have.

You'll get a LOT of varying opinions.....but that particular engine is not really a good "starter" boat engine for most people.
