Merc 40 4hp oil/gas ratio and motor info?

I just became the new owner of a 1972 Mercury 40 4 hp outboard and am looking to take her out today. Unfortunantly I did not receive an owners manual and know nothing about it. Can anyone tell me the gas/oil mixture and if it is fresh and salt capable?
