I have a small breaker(or reset button) on a breaker panel under my dash marked ignition. after about an hour run at 3/4 throttle- I slowed in an idle zone and the breaker tripped shutting down the engine. I reset the breaker , cranked engine and idled into the dock.

This is a 2006 Mercrrusier 4.3L carb engine- Chaparral 190 SSi-

What could cause this to trip?

Too much draw is what trips a breaker. Have you added anything like a stereo, amp, or other accessary to your boat that gets power from your ign circuit? You know, like a stereo that turns off when you turn the key off?
What is the circuit breaker amp rating?
Are the wires connected to the breaker warm when it trips?
breakers trip easier and easier the more they trip. If you had an ign problem that has been since fixed, your breaker may be weak.

havasuboatman is right. add on accessories could cause a higher than stock power draw, causing a trip. loose, corroded wire connections will cause this too. check wires at engine plug, at battery, at fuse panel.

no additions since I purchased boat, no work on the boat- it has been trouble free from day one-

I will check wires

this is the first time the breaker tripped
