After years of messing with timing and idle settings, I still get dieseling after a hard pull of a skier, etc. I don't want to start a discussion about running premium gas and letting my engine idle for 60 seconds before I shut it down. I have owned both a merc and volvo 4.3 and both diesel after a hard pull or run no matter what you do. Timing is spot on, idle is low, 91 octane etc. Anyways, I would like to install the merc antidieseling solenoid and solve this once and for all but before purchasing, I am wondering if there are any differences in the carb and linkages between the Merc 4.3 and Volvo 4.3?

Ayuh,.... They don't even use the same carbs, so I'd kinda doubt the linkages are the same... Donno though...

That, and adjusting your low speed fuel/air mixture, and you'll be ignoring the very thing that will solve your problem, IMO.

High cylinder temperature, a bit of carbon deposits and lean low speed F/A mixture is almost always the culprit that causes dieseling or run-on when we don't give these time to cool down.
Timing is generally not the culprit because ignition is killed during shut down, but may be part of what's causing high cylinder temperature in the first place.

The solenoid would appear to take the throttle plates closed beyond what normal idle speed would require.
If you can make that work, there's your answer without addressing the high cylinder temperature and lean F/A mixture.
It might work but only if the carburetor will allow for the solenoid adaptation.
I agree with Bondo.... doubt you can make this work witout quite a bit of modification.

I may have missed it, but I never heard of a Mercruiser anti dieseling solenoid. Can you point out on which engine it's on, which carb, year etc?

You are runnig to lean or your timing is not spot on..probably both to get that hot and or aq lot of carbon buildup. Think of it like this.. your running a engine in a very cold enviroment and a very rich extremely rich afr..and your getting detonation that is what Dieseling is..only one solution besides finding the actual culprit..fuel cutoff swhitch

Never heard of a dieseling issue that could not be solved with proper carb settings.
