Hello, i am new to this message board and i am hoping you can help. I have a Mercury 90 hp 3 cyl i believe a 1996 model serial number is 0D237890
I Have a few question so bear with me.
#1. i need a lower unit, which years and HP will fit my outboard?
#2. i removed the oil injection ( i know it works but i am from the old school if the oil is in the gas then i "know" my engine is getting lubricated) so my question is to turn off the low oil alarm do i just connect the two blue wires that did go to the low oil sensor together?
#3. What can be done to acheive more horsepower, meaning is the 90 and 115 basically the same engine? If so what would have to be changed? I am not looking for a racing engine, but if i can make my 90 into a 115 or something like that pretty easy with just carbs and exhaust tube swap then i am game.
Well, i will stop here, i am sure more questions will pop up. Thank you for your help and happy boating.

Some quick trial and error outta sort out the oil alarm. It either makes or breaks to set it off. That said, if you disconnect the oil line to the pump and keep the tank 1/2 full - the thing will never beep.

If I'm not mistaken the 90 is a triple and the 115 is a four. Adding an extra cylinder might be tough. :D

-W

Leave the wires disconnected.

Force had 50:1 stickers on them. Order two. Put one by the fuel line connector on the motor, put the other by the fuel fill fitting on the boat. Might save you from a locked-up powerhead should you ever loan the boat to a buddy or relative. Very cheap insurance!

You'll probably notice a lot of smoking at idle. Don't bother posting about how to stop it. The oil pumps lean out the ratio to 100:1 at idle. 50:1 premix is going to smoke.

Goes for trolling, too. You might start fouling plugs. Don't bother posting about that either, please.

Addendum:
Oh yeah, one more thing. Get yourself a can of Mercury's Power Tune. Treat your motor twice each season. That should keep the carbon from getting too bad. Just follow the instructions on the can.

Clams is right about the 115 being a 4 cylinder. Good Luck :) :)
