motor is a 96 30hp eho ser#0G331098, my oil pump is connected to the carb with a linkage arm. how does this work? does the linkage open a valve? also i had to disconnect my level switch in the oil tank to get the horn to quit, is this switch replacable? it kind of looks like it is molded into the tank. anyone with experiance on these little two cyl's?

Re: merc 30hp vro?

I had the same problem with my 60 mariner.I took the oil tank off and emptied it out,put about a cup of gasoline in it and shook it .Poured gas out and put back on filled with oil & it was fine.Just make suere if you get air in the line to bleed the pump.I believe the float was just sticking

river rat 26

Yes, if defective, the switch is replaceable from the dealer. Mercs don't really have "VRO". That's a term for OMC products oil injection, but many refer to it that way on all oil injected motors. I believe it's a constant 50:1 on Mercs oil injection. Others may know better!

Put your serial number here for parts and diagrams

Re: merc 30hp vro?

thanks, i'll try cleaning out the tank this weekend, the parts express break down helped alot. I see they don't offer a kit for the oil pump, is there a normal life expectency for this item. I'm going on nine trouble free years, should i consider replacing it?
