Yet another problem with this so called top of the line Searay. 2000 Sundancer 5.7 EFI mecruiser. seems that the shifter is very difficult to shift into foward and reverse- its not grinding or kicking in hard vthats all fine the handle is just very hard to click. sometimes its almost as if you have to jump on the thing!!

I hope it is just some type of adjutment-- someone had mentioned the shoe shim or casting ramp. I dont know anything about it so if someone can in laymans terms help me through this one- I would like to do it myself if possible?????

Thanks
Cool It

Knock on wood- the engine has been great- its just all the little things- but so far all repairs done without a mecanic- and hope to keep it that way.

Yea, but that was on a Volvo drive, and since you have a Mercruiser, it ain't gonna work on yours.
Now, what drive do you have, and what year?
Have you tried removing the shift cable from the engine to the drive to see if it's the cable from the engine to the controller or the controller?

it is a Bravo two-- 2000 no I did not do anything yet but I thought since there is no grinding or kick and once in gear its fine that there must be something wrong with the control-- but Im no mecanic ???

Thanks

Re: Merc 3000 Shift Control

Here are a couple of service bulletins that might help out. These are both assuming the cables are good, and not binding or corroded.

Oops, first one didn't work. Basically, remove the cables from the remote control and see if it's still stiff. There is an alignment that has to be checked, but it was on 2002 model 3000 remote controls.

Cables binding (wired tied down to close to the shifter) has caused more than one hard shifting problems that I have found. It's shown here.
http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/96/96_05.pdf
