Hi, I was given a 1961 Merc 300 engine. I cleaned the points added some gas and got it to run. The only problem is there is gas poring from the back of the lower carb. where there is either a small hole with a screw missing or a bad gasket. It is kind of hard to see so I am wondering is there a screw or drain back there? Also how much water should I see coming from the exhaust relief on the lower leg? It is spitting water with the exhaust at idle but not a stream is that normal?

Re: Merc 300 Questions

You need to clean both carburetors as it is very important that they are clean.----A fuel restriction also means 2 cylinders will not get the proper amount of oil.----Always install a new impeller in the water pump on a " new to you motor " as the motor does not have a warning buzzer for overheat !
