I sold my younger brother a 1989 Wellcraft 1950 Eclipse w/ 3.7 ltr. (I think the older version was called a 470) 165 hp 2bbl. engine about 5 years ago. This past summer the crank mounted alternator went south and spit magnets everywhere. I remember someone telling me some time ago that if that design failed it was simpler and more economical to upgrade to the standard automotive (marine grade of course) alternator.

I have seen while searching this forum references to an "Alternator Upgrade/Adapter Kit" Where is this available? and the cost? I'll most likely, do the work for him.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hey 2k,
I friend of mine got the kit from ebasicpower.com. I think it was around $350 or so. He told me it was a well designed setup and is happy with it.

My original setup is still cranking out 14 volts but I know it is just a matter of time.

Have a good one...........RH

wow some bro :) :)
several places sell that kit. works well easy toinstall and is a lot cheaper than repairing the original. last regulator kit I bought was about 420 dollars. try a napa part # 18-5953. it fits 470 from seriel #4625580, should have all ya need.

I built homemade brackets off the front of the head. I got the idea from a kit sold on ebay. It wasn't hard and only cost the price of a marine alternator and some time.

Search this site for "3.7", "3.7L" the topic is has been hot and there are a lot of conversion kits and prices vary. eBasic Power has the lowest price for the Wagner conversion kit (high quality)....but get the right one, Top mount? lower mount? with power steering? install with newer model harmonic balancer requires a little more care.
