Alan,
I finally got this thing all finished! I had to rebuild the lower unit twice because I stupidly did not redo the seals the first time since they didn't leak. All good now, painted, and new decals. New kill switch and some fiberglass work on the cowl as well in preperation for paint. I am very pleased with the paint on these 2 motors. The paint is probably comparable to a factory application---very unusual for me! The decals were big and very difficult to get right. I got some small wrinkles and bubbles on one side.
I also included a pic of a freebie merc 4.5 that I repainted today. It needed only new rings which I got on ebay for $10 including shipping. I'm suprised at how smoothly it idles and accelerates, and how easily it starts. I'm still looking for a choke knob and lever for it and it will be finished.
Anyway, I thought you might like to see the finished product. I sure do appreciate all the help from you merc guys, and in particular Faztbullet's help on this one!
BTW, the merc 650 is still running strong and has caught lots of fish this year.
It's on the boat with the pic of me in it holding the dink.
