Merc 250 Saltwater

I have a Donzi 23ZF center console with a single 250. On a recent trip to Port O'Connor, TX, the motor lost power and would only run 30. Took it to dealer when I returned home and they blamed fouled plugs. A new set of plugs seemed to cure problem for now, at least. I also seem to be using excessive oil. I haven't measured it, but I seem to add a gallon way too often. How much oil should this motor use and is this a common problem with this motor. My prior boat had a Yami 150 on it and I never had these problems. Rarely added oil to tank and no fouled plugs.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Barry

At 50-1, you should be using (1)GALLON OF OIL to every 50 gallons of gas.<br />With your 250 hp, I wouls suspect that you are buring 12-14 gallons and hour at @ 42-4300 RPM. 16-18 gal at WOT.
