merc 25 rattle,

loud rattle, knock that comes and goes from fast itle to mid speed.<br />any ideas of what is loose???

I had a loose rod cap make those noises. It was a new motor and started making the noise after a few hours of running. The dealer took it apart and found one rod cap bolt gone. They told me it was probably made during a strike the factory had. They replaced the powerhead...1980 OMC 140.
