I have a '92 Manual 25 HP Merc, 0D248099. I pulled off the prop to find out that the thrust hub assembly is chipped and appears to need replacing. Does anyone know if this part is easy/hard to find and replaceable? When I go to mercurypartsexpress.com the part is "n/a" at all regional locations. It appears from the manual that I will need the bearing carrier tool to remove this. Is this correct? The manual explains of another alternate method for removing it by use of the "...thrust hub that was removed during the prop removal procedures". Although the only thing removed previously was the propeller nut and prop. So I don't have a "thrust hub" according to the motor's diagram. I need to go ahead and replace the oil seals anyway so I guess purchasing the tool will be worth it. Thanks for the help in advance.

If you don't have a thrust hub for the propeller, I think we have found the reason for your problem. You'll need to get one. If I'm not mistaken, it has a removable shallow stainless steel cup. If you remove that from the thrust hub, there will be three flanges that fit into the bearing carrier center. The hex end of the thrust hub will fit a conventional wrench, I don't know the size. But that thrust hub is your special tool when placed onto the propshaft backwards. At least it is on some models.
