Merc 240 sport jet

Worried about reliability of the Mercury 240 sport jet, 2005. The power head is the 2.5l that I have believed to be reliable, but I cannot find what type of modifications were required to retask the design. Any feedback. Weakness's to look for?

Its similar to the Hi-perf 240 and early 260hp outboard models but crank splines is different. These have exhaust chest cut big time, port timing is raised, electroncs a tad different.

Thanks Faz, what do you mean by exhaust chest cut? She runs like a sewing machine at speed but rough at idle.
