Re: merc 200 outboard

Yes ken these motors are cold-blooded.most people that have difficulty starting them arent using quite the 'correct procedure'.Try this once an see if it starts easier: Boat in the water. motor dowm as far as it can go [higher you tip them the harder they start] prime with primer ball . grab ahold of the key, BUT DONT ADVANCE THE THROOTLE turn key on and push it in and hold it for a 5 to 8 second count, then start cranking. Once it fires you can advance throttle for warm up. if rpm's drop when first started tap the primer {key} acouple of times to feed it more fuel........that 5 to 8sec count varies by engine temp ...the colder it is the longer you hold it....

Re: merc 200 outboard

Thank you very much for your info.now one more question i was also told I should have a larger cranking amp battery sugg. about 1000 cranking amps.I presently have a 800 cranking amp battery and it does not seem to last long when starting a cold engine, and the battery is new....any info would be appreciated thanks

Kent, if you have a good enuf battery you will melt down the starter before the battery goes soft! 1000 mca rating is standard for outboard battery any less and yer being cheap.......
