I was recently given a jon boat with a Merc 200 motor (I assume it is a 20 HP but I know very little about boat motors). The serial # is 2433082 which I assume dates it in the 70's. I would like to purchase a tech manual or whatever I would need that would have capacities, etc. so a friend can help me get the engine running smoothly. Can someone tell me where I can order this manual? Does it have to be specific to my motor or will it cover numerous years/models like some Chilton car manuals (am I mixing up repair and tech manuals?). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy fjmclean,
There're some other manuals out there, but your best bet is to get the ome manual from your friendly Merc dealer. It'll be for THAT engine and not a dozen other ones. Probably $30.00-$40.00 but worth ever dime.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

You can get the part number buy going to www.mercurymarine.com, calling the number in WI and talk to the tech person. They'll give you the part number you can take to your local dealer. I found my local dealers really didn't want to look up the old serial numbers. But...according the the Mercury tech person I talked to the local guys have the same system. It took her just a minute or two. Bass Pro Shops said they had to look it up on microfish (sp?). So who knows.

Good Luck,
Rob
