merc 200 hp

I have a 200 hp merc 1987, in the clymer manual i have to use a timing light to set the spark advance but it does not say where to connect it , can someone give me this info please thanks.........back in the water soon!

Ken, you always key on the #1 cylinder. attach light (around) #1 spark plug lead. before doing this, make sure timing pointer is aligned correctly (0 degrees at top dead center), clymer has some instructions about pointer alignment I think. By the way, had bad weather this weekend (no fishing) have Mariner block #2 pulled and crated.<br /><br />grandx
