So I bought a boat with a bad 1995ish Merc 2.5L 150 XRI. All holes need to be bored so I might as well look for a block. What years/models block will interchange with mine?

1994-1999 ..the carb and EFI models of these years use same block. Need to find out what caused "all the holes need bored" problem first.

So the optimax will not fit?
They smoked the impeller, had someone replace it but they didn’t replace the impeller housing. Engine was ran hot, took out the oil pump drive gear.

True. There is the block, bad pistons, bearings and oil pump drive gear, impeller and housing.

if it's a stock 3.500 bore send it to Chris Carson marine in key largo FL he will bore it for you and if it needs a sleeve or 2 he can do that also! these blocks are rare hard to come by and even if you buy a reman you have to have a good core, or they will charge you for the core! i have one down there right now getting 2 sleeve's and bored 200 2.5L!

I hear ya. I know it can be fixed, but at what price. I’m in minnesota so I’m sure shipping alone would be $300 plus machine work and sleeves if needed. Now I’m well over $1,000 in just the block. I’m already upside down on this damn project. I’m almost ready just to sell it.
