Can anyone post a picture or diagram of the throttle cable support bracket for the 188 2 bbl carb? I am converting my 188 to a 4 bbl 450 cfm Holley and would like to use a similar support bracket if one exists. I think the 2 bbl bracket might have been part of the carb spacer that accomodated the PCV fitting on the rear of it.

I don't think that merc ever offered a 4 bbl for the 302 but they may have for a 351W. So, as the spacer for the 351W would have been the same for a 302 maybe I could find one.

I would go take a closer look at my 188 setup but it is under winter wrap 1/2 way accross the county.

The parts you want are for a Mercruiser 255 Ford 351 V8 1973-1974
It's kind of hard to see the numbers in the link, so I have another picture of the bracket and hardware below.

Thanks for posting Don. Maybe those parts are the same ones for the 188/302 2 bbl? I thought they might have been a part of the spacer itself. I'll endeaver to take a closer look at the setup on my 188. It'll only take me a 1/2 a day to unwrap it.:'(

Oh how I wish I had that boat in my back yard. It's hard to plan, let alone do, projects when it's not outside your back door.

That bracket (#17) may be different because of the hole spacing of the mounting studs. It fits over the back 2 studs used to mount the carb to the manifold. Or a different distance from where the cable mounts on the arm fo the bracket to where the linkage on the carb actually is.

Don, I don't know for sure but the OEM 2 bbl manifold that currently accomodates the current stock carb would also accomodate a Holley 350 cfm 2bbl carb. The Holley 2 bbl carb has the same rear stud spacing as as the Holley 4160 450 and 600 cfm 4 bbl carbs. The side stud spacing, of course, is wider.

Soooooo, maybe it is the same bracket. The only difference I could see is the length of the bracket, as the rear studs, for a 4 bbl, would be farther away from the pivot point of the primary butterfly shaft.

That may make the 2 bbl bracket reach too far back when using it for 4 bbl.

..or maybe that is exactly what you were saying.:)

Hey Boomyal,.........

I Believe I've got a nearly Complete Merc. 351W sitting out back under a tarp,......
It's a Frozen junk motor,..... I can take a Look,+ If the required Parts are still on it,......
I'll Gladly send them off to ya, if it'll Help ya Out........

I'm pretty Sure it's a 4bbl.ed motor,+ the Top-end is still on it.......
I gotta dig it out Anyways,......
It's going to be my new Mooring Block for the Houseboat..........
And a Mooring Block really doesn't Need a Carb, or it's Linkages........

On my merc 233 I switched to a 4 barrel and had the same problem. Made a 90 degree bracket that bolted where the rear engine lift hook mounts. 2 seasons now and no proplem. Or like don said go with a merc255.
