I have a brown/white wire that is disconnected and i believe to be part of this equation. I also know where my two wires are from the trim sender switch coming from the stern drive. This is the L6 165 merc. In 12 days I have replaced the up solenoid, reconnected the trim limit, replaced fuel pump filter, in-line fuel filter, adjusted and cleaned the carb, replaced the blower, valve cover gasket, refinished the teakwood, so i am getting close to finished so please help.

i believe there is suppose to be a brn/wh. hooked to one of the black wires from the trim sender.

Re: Merc 165 1981 trim position guage

My aftermarket manual shows one side of the sender hooked to black going to positive on the battery.

Second side of trim sender is hooked to purple/white going to indicator

Indicator is powered by accessory side of ignition swith

I also want to say indicator is also grounded.

I had to rewire mine, I think the signal from the sender was disconnected.

Your wire colors may vary.

Congrats on the repairs, hope you can enjoy them soon.

where was your up solenoid for the trim?
coming from the pump. the up sol. would be the one with the blue wire attached to it..
