I have a merc 150 1985 , when idle in forward gear for long time say 10 min. or longer, it starts tp miss then dies, to start it up I have to use the choke, fuel enricher on the key switch, when running, I have to rev it up a bit then she is fine.
I have replaced the fuel pump, and stater, and plugs, uses the center fire type plug. Also cleaned fuel pick up, and new fuel hose & squeze ball.

Re: merc 150 idle

Greetings fellow cannuck! I have the same engine, and they were NOT designed for trolling. If I sit at Idle for too long, or I try to troll with it, the bugger heats up, gets carboned up and stalls, then there a pain to start. This engine was designed to run full throttle, or at least half. I got myself a little 6 horse johnson when I feel like trolling.....works perfect!

Re: merc 150 idle

Well boating season is about to end around here, rain is coming.
Today I took the boat to the lake, when the idle problem started, came home put the muffs on and the timing was out 6 * so I set that up and the idle. So now to wait for the sun again.\
I agree the 150s like to run mid to high rpms. I wonder if they make one hotter plug to try?Now I use ngk BU8H
