Looking at buying a mercury outboard 150 hp. Includes power trim/tilt, all controls, oil injection with low hrs. As of right now, unsure of the exact year, but seller says late 80's. Until I get the serial & Model number, I won't know the exact year, but from our chats, I'm guessing 87' - 89'.
Any feedback on this particular hp and years is greatly appreciated.
I'm looking at powering a home built 19' deck boat that is tunnel hulled and flat bottomed. It weighs more than the average bear. Approx. 2800 - 3200 lbs with center V hull in rear that supports the engine with a 25' shaft.
Would really like to hear expetise on Mercury 150hp engines.
Thanks a Bunch!

Those motors keep the lights on at the Merc factory. That's what they sell most of. The V-6s are excellent motors in general. You'll want to premix your gas until you can confirm that oil is being pumped from the tank. Mark the oil level and see if it goes down before you start using straight gas. (Just a suggestion)

Thanks for the replies, I'll try and learn a bit more on the exact make/model... I don't know if it's a V6 or not...

It's definatly a V6 if it was made in the 80's. The inline 6 150 dissapeared in the late 70's. When the V6 150 came out they renamed the inline 150 a 140 - a marketing move.

-W
