looking at a boat (78 tahiti w/merc 140) will run all day at 3/4 but you hit full throttle and it dies.. Owner says when he got it, it had old gas in it. He emptyed the gas , put in fresh has ran it about 6 times but still wants to die at full throttle...

To me sound like just a fuel issue, maybe run a tank or two through empty the float bowl on the carb , maybe run some kinda cleaner through ???

WIll this be easy to fix for 2500 it's a great deal

Is it possible to have someone run the boat while you look into the carb to see if the gas is shutting down at full throttle? Have you changed the filters?

I could do that when I buy the boat :( right now it is 3 hours from me. trying to deceide if it is worth the drive and cost. I dont mind putting a couple of hundred into fixing it , just want to make sure it is not a MAJOR thing. Had not thought about the filters though

Never buy a boat without running it. You have no idea what could be wrong with it

My OMC did the exact same thing...carb rebuilt fixed it for me....I have seen clogged fuel lines, sticking anti-siphon valve, clogged fuel filters and dwell not advancing as all being problems that cause this sympton. Bad gas could have caused most of the above soo...with that in mind....good luck.

Oh yea...get a compression test on ALL the cyclinders before you hand over any money. They all need to be within the same general pressure range (not sure the exact %%% sorry)

-JustMrWill
