I have 1978 Mercruiser 140 3.0L 4 cyl. I got it recently so I am still not sure if I am using it properly. I have panel mounted remote control as on attached picture.
After cruising for some 15 minutes, motor stoped (my fault). Then I unsuccessfuly tried to start it again but I think I made a mistake. I pushed the button (to disengage the shift mechanism) and moved control handle from neutral position (approx. horizontal) to full vertical position. Now, I am not sure about this. Without pushing the button, control handle in full vertical position means that motor is in forward gear but in idle speed. According to manual, button pushed in and control handle in full vertical position is procedure for starting cold engine. Since my engine was hot, should I have left control handle in neutral position? When I finally started it (when engine cooled a bit) and left control handle in full vertical position, I noticed fuel dripping from carburator. It looks like at full vertical position more fuel is added to the mixture (choke)? Is that so? Then I guess I flooded the engine while it was hot? Please help?
