So I wonder. Our 2008 Merc 115 OB with 169 hours stalled as we approached the dock to reload. The fuel gauge went to empty (was 3/4 full). Turned out the fuel line basically disintegrated and the fragments clogged the filters.

My question: did the fuel gauge drop to empty as an indicator that there was something wrong with the fuel system (since the dash has not icons that light up otherwise)? Once the fuel line was replaced the gauge read normally again.

I am not an expert here or know your system, but usually an indication of 'empty' when you have the fuel in it, is a failed tank sender or connection issue. Fuel gauge reads whats in the tank and has no bearing on the line connected. Very strange that normal operation once the hose was replaced.
