Merc 110 9.8 hp lower end removal

I need to remove the lower end to replace the impeller and I have removed the 2 nuts and it is supposed to drop out. It doesn't! It seems to be stuck at the front. could it be that the crank and drive shaft are seized together? Any ideas how to remove it? Any help is appreciated. Motor is year 1972.
