merc 1000 model/serial number location

im looking for serial/model number on old merc 1000 any ideas might have been painted so havent found

Welcome, on the real old ones I'm not sure.
But there is a silver freeze type plug someplace on the head

There is a plate between the thumbscrews that should have the operating instructions and ser.Nr. if not visible clean surface with paint thinner not remover.

Serial should also be stamped on the block somewhere, usually on top, behind the flywheel.
