Merc 1000 loses power

Hello, I have a '63 Mercury 1000. It is 100 HP with an inline 6 cylinder. It starts fine, idles fine, runs great at top speed, but loses power when I am pulling the kids in the tube or on water skis. Spark plugs and wires were just changed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks<br />Jefflos

I'd go thru the ignition; remove the points and clean/replace/adjust dwell; new condensers; clean the cap and rotor.<br /><br />It could also be a fuel pump issue, which would be easy to troubleshoot by squeezing the primer bulb when you experience the problem.<br /><br />Here's a good place for instructions on care and feeding of your old Inline:<br /><br /> http://www.maxrules.com/fixoldmercindex.html <br /><br />HTH........ed
