Re: menhaden oil

I have seen it much cheaper in a local feed store around shrimp baiting time. A lot of guys here use it to create or enhance a chum slick and will use bread soaked in it to chum up bait. Personally most of my S/W fishing is inshore and we don't usually chum. I have been thinking about using it in like a slow release jug of some sort sunk to bottom (with a retrieve rope I don't litter) in freshwater for cats.

Re: menhaden oil

a freind of mine says it can be used for a chum slick for makrel. i did'nt see any makrel but we caught a couple of cobia. hey peter try this one for f.w.cats....take a couple of cans of cheap catfood and poke a hole with a nail into the top near the side comming out the side near the top. tie a float to the can(not big enough to move it though) and punch a bunch of holes in it. toss it in where you want to fish at later and come back later(toss in early, fish late) you pick the flavor. liver would be a good choice(the more that goes to the fish the less in the store i have to eat....yuck) when your done just pull up the cans. works good round here. ;)

Re: menhaden oil

Derwood not to get too much into it but I am a catfisherman at heart I have used the catfood and many other things with great success on cats of an "eater" size. I have been looking for something to help turn big cats on. I was thinking "fish" oil might work as bigger cats are usually fish eaters. I was also thinking about grinding up left over bait and freezing it in blocks like they do to make chum blocks for S/W fishing.

after they get so big they are considerd water buffalo. looked like catfisher was usen deer for bait on those ones he caught in those pictures. that chum thing just might work, mabey you could get your hands on some jacks to grind up with it, they are pretty oily and fishy. if i could remember what they used for shark chum in baha the time i went i'd tell ya that one. it was nasty. the smell was nuclear bad. old dead rotten herpies smellen fish gut nasty. you could probly hipmotize the big cats with that stuff....coarse your better half would kick you out of the house for an undetermaned lenght of time if you got any on ya. i'm turnnen green cheeked...see ya<br />derwood

Nope my better half actually would not mind me doing it. She is as much a fisherperson as I am despite my comment about cutting grass. She does take a little offense to me using the kitchen appliances when I was making catfish baits during my experimental years but she solved it by getting me my own at a yard sale. She is realy one heck of a good woman if only she would back the trailer up at a busy ramp so all I ahd to do was drive on.
