Re: Megan's Law Website
All states are supposed to have one. If you are wondering go to your states state police website or state government site. A lot of radio and TV stations also publish these stats.
One comfort though is it takes very little to be a registered sex offender. The offenders could be as little as a 19 year old caught with a 15 year old girlfriend where both are in love but mom and dad took offnese all the way to the predator serial rapist. The site should also have the level of offender the person has been listed as. There should be a low level offender for those caught in a bad situation to the high level for the predator. They should also have a listing for those likely to offend again.
It is in one way a relief to know these people are around, and another way it is frightening to know.
Everyone convicted of any sex offense from rape to unwanted touching must register. The ones who have registered usually are not a concern. It is the ones who refuse to register that are the real threats.
Around here when an offender is released or moves to the area and registers as a sex offender it not only goes out on the website, they also announce it on the radio every morning for a week. There is one man convicted of unwanted touching a co-worker years back, when the first registration law came in. No effenses since then. he comes here in the summers and lives for 3 months. He must register every year as soon as he gets to town. Then there is another convicted of sexual assault on numerous young boys back before the registration law came in. This man does not have to register.
Good job letting everyone know this information. Anyone with cildren should know about these sites and should be aware of who is around them, but remember not everyone registered is a predator looking for a victim.
