medical question

a guy at work went into the hospital this week. he had been having problems with kidney stones for awhile, and on a checkup last week, the doctore informed him of a possible tumor (that's all he told us). anyway, i pick up some of his jobs, and he expects to be out for a few weeks. i just heard that he had surgery yesterday and they removed him pancreas. is that as bad as it sounds to me? i thought i always heard people with pancreatic cancer were basically given a short amount of time. maybe that is different than removing the pancreas completely, no idea. anyone have any info? i'm afraid people around the office are assuming surgery went well and he'll be back soon, but when i heard it, i thought about the worst.

Re: medical question

Not enough info for an answer. But IF he had pancreatic cancer, don't buy him any green bananas. They won't have time to ripen.

Re: medical question

Very true pancreatic cancer is the fastest,2 people here was diognosted with it ,they lived less than a month, theres no screening for it,and it dosnt show up on other tests, the doctors have to look for it,and it can be expensive.

yeah, i thought pancreatic cancer was a death kiss. still unsure how that compares to having your pancreas removed.

Error, Error... Need input need input... Tumors are not necessarly cancerous. Cancerous or not they will not remove an organ that is necessary to sustain life unless there is something to replace it ie, Heart translant, kidney transplant, colostomy bag.....

Re: medical question

Question is, did he have cancer, or not. If cancer, not good. If not, then it doesn't have to be a death kiss. Not enough info to get up tight about. Prayers are with him.

Re: medical question

Losing a pancreas is very serious, There has to be good reason to remove it as now he will need to do the pancreatic function chemically and have much of a loss of physical activities. Removing that organ has always been a last ditch effor to keep someone breathing. I hope he survives but may not be back at work soon. Wish him luck

Matttt I hate to say this but I agree with what has been said: insufficient information but I can say that to make the decision to remove the pancreas would not be lightly taken and as previously mentioned leaves the patient at great risk. I'd not be expecting him back at work any time soon.Sorry.

Re: medical question

Without a pancreas no insulin produced, would be on insulin the rest of their life,if they are so lucky

Re: medical question

thanks all. from what i've heard, they simply don't remove the whole pancreas, because it leads to a quick death 100% of the time. so i probably got bad info, and they removed a portion of it. i think it comes down to whether it was cancerous or not.
