I got a boat of 15.5 feet which has a mecruiser 2.0 L. But the lower unit is leaking from shift pin. Is it easy to be fixed? Which hole can be used to add oil? Also can I take off the water drain screw. it is raining a few days. I am worried about it is flooding inside.

The plug in the first pic should be out on land for that very reason. The drive shouldn't be leaking any oil so going to need more information. Starting with serial number. Did all that water in the cup leak out from the drive with the oil. It doesn't look mixed at all.

Thank Boater31 for your replying. In the first pic, Do you mean I should take the plug out in case of flooding inside? The oil maybe is new. So it is not mixed with water. Where can I get the serial No.?

Yes, the plug I'd used to drain water that gets in the boat either from using it or from a leaking tarp etc. If the plug is in and there is a leak in the cover, it will fill with water and do allot of damage, with it out it can't get filled. MAKE SURE TO REINSTALL BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE WATER.

The serial number is generally ground on the port side of the upper drive section. If it can't be found the a year or motor information could help when other more knowledgeable experts chime in.

As for the leaking oil, can you take a pic of where it is leaking from. I suspect you mean the shift shaft in the front. A pic of the entire drive could help determine what kind of drive it is also.

The plug must be removed when ever you are out of the water. Put it in a ziplock bag, tie it to the steering wheel so you don't forget to put it in before launching next time. If it's the shift shaft seal leaking it's a relatively easy fix for most of us. any other lower unit leak takes a bit more finesse to fix.

One of the internal seals between the two cases most likely. Under the water pump, shift shaft or the output seal for the upper case.

Is there also oil leaking at what looks like a glued hole. I hope not. Otherwise i agree with Rick. You can pressure test the drive and know for sure before you tear into it. Look at the stickies to learn how.

But somebody told me never to touch the shift shaft seal.

Well that somebody don't know how to repair outdrives. There are lots of things to learn when you tear in to a mercruiser. Check out the stickies,

Maybe I tight it back with screw, then it works. I will try tonight.

Today I tried to make the pin tight with a driver. To my surprise, the shift shaft pin hole is only 1 fourth inch, and I even can not find a driver to get in.

To fix the oil leak, ya Gotta split the lower unit from the upper unit,.....

while at it, pull the whole drive, check alignment and u-joints and probably throw in a gimbal bearing and bellows.

That's what it looks like to me as well. I'm confused about what a screwdriver has to do with it though. Having a hard time following the thread, but seems like he's leaking oil from the drain hole. Shift shaft seal, water pump, maybe drive shaft seal?
