Mechanical gas gage question.

I have two 12 gallon tanks under the seat boxes of my 72 Glassmaster and they both use Mirax mechanical float gauges. Anyone know how they work? Mine are both stuck on 5/8'ths full but the floats are working. Needles seem to be stuck.

What the heck makes them work anyhow because there is no mechanical connection to the needles. Are they magnetic? Also, can the gauge needles themselves be replaced or repaired to proper function?

One more question.

Both gauges were wired to the gauge housing. Is this just part of the ground system?

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Mechanical gas gage question.

I think I just answered my own question. It seems Tempo still makes the mechanical units and the small replacement capsules which house the needle assemblies. The replacements are found here for $14 each.

This is a great site!
