Can anyone recommend a good outboard mechanic in the greater Boston area. I have a 1986 60hp Mercury that I was told was tired and may have an oil leak. It needs a tune up and most likely some engine work.

Thanks

Re: Mechanic

I don't know what you're level of knowledge re; machinery is but there's always a whole raft of jobs you can do yourself. The trick is gaining confidence in your ability. When I started we had a family full of boating knowledge with wooden boats, over the years as they passed away I found I was more able and willing to take on some work I'd normally turn down. I now have a confidence built over years of good friendships with like minded folk who use boats. This board has also given me back a lot of the knowledge from older, wiser folk so once again I can pick folks brains.
Do your own work, seek advice, make contacts with the board often, but do look around for a mechanic as there will always be some work you don't want to do.
I know this is long winded but hey, you asked.....
Good luck
Ross

Re: Mechanic

Thanks Ross. That's good advice.

I'm kind of mechanically challenged. I do like to learn and do things for myself, however a lot of times I make things worse. Sometimes when I try to fix things, I turn a $50 job into a $500 job.
