Mech fuel pump failure

I have a 4.3l v6 omc with a 2 barrell carb and a mechanical fuel pump. It will get to were it wont idle, it will crank and rev up, i can replace the fuel pump and problem solved. Idles and runs good. This has happend three times in about 18 outings with the boat. Any idea why i keep going thru fuel pumps, thanks.

Ayuh,... My guess is there's a problem in the tank, or the lines, upstream of the pump...

That was going to be my next step, thanks for the conformation. if the problem continues after i check the tank and lines, Do you thing that I may not have the right carb to engine set up maybe thats causing the fuel pump issues, thanks again.
