Measuring the "Beam"

What does that mean? Where is the beam of the boat located? My boat has a 6ft beam, is that good? Where do I measure that?

It is the widest part of the boat on the outside.

Beam means the width of the boat. Beam is usually measured from the widest part of the boat (Usually near the bow area. <br /><br />It vary's if 6ft. is good. For instance, Midnight Lace was designed so that a narrow beam would increase speed and fuel consumption. (Ex: 52ft. with a 13ft. beam). Some boats are made special by being narrow. Which is good!<br /><br />JAZZ
