.....have arrived in the State of mi madre's birth; Pennsylvania! We (Mrs B and Me) came to Kutztown to visit my Daughter and her Husband. We'll spend three days here then drive to DC to visit Boomyal Jr.

It is fun to have a laptop to be able to keep in touch. I was somewhat surprised to find that not all airports have free WiFi. I thought that was common place?

I also brought along my TomTom only to get somewhat lost returning to the hotel from my Daughter's house last nite. I should have updated it as I found the directional arrow running across a blank screen during a blinding rain storm. The route we were on was apparently newer than the map program. The unit kept furiously re-calculating new routes, only to suggests turns that did not exist. Once I got off the Fwy, onto surface streets, the TomTom found itself and got us back to the hotel, albiet via a very circuitous route.

Anyway, so far, Pennsylvania is a beautiful place and we will see a bit more of it in the next few days.

...Oh, and did I mention, United Airlines suck. I don't travel a lot but the seating was the worst that I ever encountered. The seats were narrow and the legroom was so bad that I could not even reach down between my legs and grab my computer bag.

Ha, I love the part about UA. I fly a lot of commuter flights on 737's and have learned that the seat isle is only good if you need to stay awake. I have fairly broad shoulders and the danged cart left me bruised and battered. Next I tried the window (avoid the center seat at all costs). The window is better but again, with broad shoulders you end up leaning into the center seat. I did a little investigating and found that the seats over the wheel wells (only two) have tons more room than any other seats on the plane. I doubt you were on a 737 but if you ever need to fly on one go for those wheel well seats!

Hey Boom, come a little west and visit me!

aspeck, Huntingdon must be in south central/western PA. I tried to google it on a state map but had no luck. You must be on one leg of a triangle between Kutztown, Huntingdon and WA DC. They are all seemingly equidistant from each other. If I was traveling alone I would hoof it out your way but as it is we are headed to DC on Monday morning and several extra hours would not be on Mrs B's master plan. She is in a hurry to see her baby boy.

Thanks for the invite though. I am sad to miss the opportunity to finally meet you in person.

Was on a 757-200, jlawsen. A real cattle car with a full load. There were some seats forward of us (economy plus) that had a little more leg room but otherwise the whole non first class section was 6 seats wide and had the same amount of shoulder room. In other words, very little.

Certainly understand ... about a 2 hour drive out of your way ... south central PA it is. 30 miles south of State College, PA. I know what it is like when you need to make time to see someone, but wish you could make a detour ... the baby boy outranks me. Next time you are in, make a day for me and we can do some boating and maybe even some fishing together.

But didn't you tell me that you were talking to Rob's wife and she was complaining that the cheapskate wouldn't upgrade the desktop with a larger hard drive and you told her to delete the laptop backup to free up more space? Something about "that 'ill teach 'em."????:p:D:facepalm:

okay, back to our regular scheduled programming ....

Re: Me and my new Toshiba Laptop...

We'll be headed to DC this morning after a hearty breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. So far I have loved the people of Pennsylvania, loved all the old buildings, scratched my head at the roads AND wondered why the weather didn't seem much different than the weather that I left in the PNW.

The big exceptions to the weather issue were the two Frog Stranglers that we have been in. The last of them was yesterday afternoon when we were walking Main St in Bethlehem PA. Rain looked eminent so I left the family at the Kenyan restaurant/coffee house and headed a couple of blocks away to get the car. I made it within a half block of the car when it started to pour. I headed for the nearest cover when the garbanzo bean sized hail started. The wind was blowing it all at 45 degrees with thunder and lightning. I hid successfully as the street filled up with water and ice. I wished that I had taken out my camera.

In the mean time my wife and kids were back at the restaurant where they were scrambling to get everyone off the sidewalk and to clear all the sidewalk tables of covers and condiments. We all suffered from an adrenaline rush when it was all over.

Meanwhile, the $309 Toshiba Lap Top continues to work flawlessly. No hard drive crashes yet!

Re: Me and my new Toshiba Laptop...

Hey Boom, the weather has been exceptionally wierd the last couple of weeks. This is not characteristic of early June weather. 2 tornadoes touched down the end of last week near here, a violent thunderstorm every other day ... not normal weather at all. Sorry for that.

And what can I say about the roads ... the worst in the US ... narrow, windy, pot holes, and those are the interstates and turnpikes! The state and county roads are even worse! I have been on better dirt roads in Colorado than paved roads here in PA! Guess you can't have everything! Glad you enjoyed your time in PA. Now enjoy DC, but don't let the insiders brainwash you! LOL!

No fear for me aspeck but I came to bolster my Son. Each time we speak to him on the phone he seems to be tilting a little further to the left.

On the subject of Pennsylvania roads, when we crossed over into Marlyland this morning I commented to Mrs B that the roads seemed to be more serene and less schizophrenic than they had been in PA.
