Maybe Time For A New Tube

We purchased a single person Airhead Stingray in 2006. This tube has been a ton of fun. But about 2 years ago it got left out in the sun, got a little hot, and stretched a couple of seams. Since then it seems I've been patching a series of small pinholes - all at the seams.

This tube has been great for everyone, even for the little kids. I'm going to try a few more patches but this might be a loosing battle. I'm thinking about replacing it with the same brand, same model, unless someone has another good recommendation for a single rider tube.

Thanks for your recommendations.

Below is a link to a short video clip that daughter made a few years back of the family splashing and crashing in the tube.

Thats some excellent promotional video you have there, send that to the Mnfg. and maybe they'll send you a free tube.

Great movie !!!!
Tubing is fun for all I find. Especially the ones that don't really want to ski.

We have the same tube, but the two person. It is a great tube, BUT we have the same problem with the seams. I patched it last summer and have to patch some holes on the seams before we use it again.

I thought it was just me, but maybe its the manufacturing. Here is another three person tube we have.

That looks like a really fun ride.
Mind me asking the price of that one ???
We will maybe upgrading out "tube transportation" this season. Currently have a 4 man tube with the big hole in the centre but want to try something different this season.

We have had this tube for a number of years. I don't recall the price. It is a large tube. We use it for a floating island in the coves.

It is such a large tube ( 3 person), 96" or 100" diameter, it can be difficult to get it swinging back and forth across the wake.

We really did enjoy the two person airhead stingray.

It was nice to have the backrest and the side wings on a upward angle. I did have to patch the seams a few times. I did a search and Airhead now has a new model.

I had a two person flat belly tube. That was also fun. You could whip that back and forth over the wake. It was better for teenagers and adults, because you would end up rolling off the sides.

Re: Maybe Time For A New Tube

I think I paid around $200 back in 2006, but iboats has them on clearance for around $118, which is an excellent price.

I like this towable because it's ridden feet first (sitting down). It's also really stable (despite what's in the video) and pretty simple to ride. In fact, all a beginner really has to do is to sit there. However, once you get into a little slalom action it's a lot of fun and relatively safe (if you just control the speed of the boat and watch the turns). Also, I have a 17' boat with a 90 HP, so I really can't pull a very big towable with my rig.

That looks like fun also. We are going "tube hunting" as soon as we get back from Jamaica. Will post what we get.

That does look like fun. Thanks for the video.. I also left air in our old tube and we suffered the bubble effect. We are also limited in HP so I don't want a huge tube.

Re: Maybe Time For A New Tube

I like the triangular tubes - the cover stays on and its fun for tiny kids and an adult - so everyone can enjoy the ride. I love this one - it is WAY smaller than yours, but it's fun to zip around and it's easy to manage.

Had a two year old and her mom in it last year and she went out three times.

I want to add the hot dog to the arsenal this year.

We have a 3 person hot dog. The older kids like it. The younger ones 8 and 9 don't care for it. They like the 2 person half pipe.

Re: Maybe Time For A New Tube

How are the 2-3 person tubes? I just started boating and have two 9 year olds who want to tube. A friend told me to stay away from multi rider tubes due to bumped heads. have you had any problem? I should add my son doesn't consider anything "fun" unless it's dangerous. Someone gave me a one person tube, but with 3-5 kids it will take awhile for everyone to get a ride. I considered a 2 person tube to speed up the turn over between rides.

Re: Maybe Time For A New Tube

We have had a few head bumps, nothing serious. It depends on the driver and speed of the boat.

Re: Maybe Time For A New Tube

No bumped heads yet but my kids are only 8,9 and 13 this year. They don't like to go to fast. They feel safer if someone is with them. The older kids like to go fast and have not bumped heads yet.
