so back when I first joined this site, it was because I had bought my first motor boat. I was thrilled to finally get a boat. wanted on for years. well long story short I bought someone else's problems.
took it to a shop for repair and got completely ripped off there.
forget it I am going sailing. been sailing for about 10 years, love it.

this year we decide to try motor boating again. well I am not screwing around with a used boat that I don't know anything about. I am buying new.

you may remember my posts about 1 month ago about the new boat. yay me got a new boat. beautiful thing she is.

until the 5.5 hour mark that is.

backed away from the dock, slipped it into forward, got 50 ft, heard a weird noise then nothing. motor quit. tried to restart, nope not happening. got towed back in. goo thing boaters are nice.

haul it to the shop last Mon. heard back from them yesterday. motor suffered a major internal failure. it's done.
they put in a call to Volvo for a new engine to replace it with. at least it's under warranty.

are you kidding me? I swear boats hate me.

to make it worse I sold my sailboat when I got the motor boat. good thing I still have the kayak, guess I am paddling this weekend.

girlfriend wanted to "christen" the new boat and I said no need. yeah that hasn't been brought up a time or two this week LOL

That hurts just to read! Sorry man. What a bummer. But great that it's all under warranty!

Been there done that, when my wife and I first got married, I bought a nice little 14 Seaswirl and restored it, had a 35hp on it and drove really nice, but I will be darn, that sucker would not run when my wife got in that boat, ran great the rest of the time, just not when she was on it!

I have been trying to get a motor to do that for years. Ah, the dream of boating in silence. You could have sold that motor for thousands!

thanks for the responses guys.

I guess I don't feel quite as bad this morning.

buddy of mine was picking up his first brand new boat this weekend. he has been boating for years but never had a new boat. got him a scarab 195. he has wanted a jet boat for some time.

20 minutes into the orientation with the dealer the computer went out on the boat. the dealer will deliver it to them when it gets fixed.

well it's back home now. took two weeks for Volvo to get another engine to the dealer. that seems like a long time to me. I have worked for three engine manuf and we never took that long to swap out a warranty engine.
Having lost most of June due to their eng failing and their slow response time, I doubt I would go with a Volvo power plant again.

watched the mech take the boat out to test on the water. seemed to run good. was surprised how loud it is from shore at WOT

we'll be taking it out this weekend to start the breakin procedure once again.

Mechanic already went to WOT on a new motor

Has to come across the pond I guess. The cost of parts, lack of information are the reason I say away from VP. I know they make some good equipment, but just not for me

well they have distributors here in country, just a slow response time.

yeah I was surprised at the WOT part as well but whatever.

given the way this one has gone so far, I don't see keeping it past the warranty anyways, unless things go absolutely flawless from here on out.

this was it's second trip to the shop in a month, first time was a small hole developed in the hull. looking at it yesterday after I got it home, it looks as though that hole may be returning. small dimple now, but we know how that goes.

LOL so you have been where I am deckswabber?

so took it out this weekend. fuel gauge and speedometer are inop. threw an alarm about 1 1/2 hour in to the ride, not sure for what. it is simply an audible tone that beeps. I stopped let it idle down then we took off. seemed ok at lower RPMs but nothing over 3000.

gonna take it out this weekend and write down everything that is still wrong and then back to the shop for it. I may see if the mech has a few moments to go out on it with me this sat. the shop is very near the lake so would be helpful for him to be on the boat while it is running around.

not sure about the oil pressure. manual says it will throw steady tone and slow the engine for low pressure but doesn't say what normal pressure is. it was running 80 PSI at 3000 RPM. to me that seemed high. will call the shop and ask them today or tomorrow.

all in all still can't take friends or family out on a brand new boat because you can't trust it. very frustrating.

The solid beeps are
low oil pressure'
low drive lube
engine overheat
low water pressure
engine over speed

If you have CATs then there is also port/starboard exhaust over heat

appreciate the info Alldodge. It isn't giving the solid beep, just the warning like you get when starting the engine.

talked to the mech he said nothing to worry about, told me where to look to clean out speedometer and to check if fuel gauge was left disconnected. it will save me a 40 mile trip to the shop if I can fix it.

he said the oil pressure on these regularly runs that high, hmm oh well it has a two year warranty and I have done my part by asking him.

cleaned out the speedo sender, checked fuel gauge connection, removed wrench that was left behind by mech, filled her up with fuel and hit the water.

had probably our best day so far with the boat. everything seemed to be working well. oil pressure is still reading 80.

3 1/2 hours left to go with break in. 10 hours of it anyway. then we can pull a tube.
