Ok so I just bought a triton tr-21 with a merc 225 efi from my uncle. Its a very nice boat by the way. Anyways, my uncle said he was going down the lake and he hit something. It did take a little chunk out of the skeg but nothing major. I think that it might have spun the prop also. He told me that it had rebbed up very high when he hit something that day. He said that he immediately cut the engine off and trolled to the boat landing. If rebbed to high, what happens to the outboard. Cracked block or piston? I checked the compression and I have different readings. I have 100,90,90, 70, 70 , 80. I know they are low so where do I go now. Do I need to buy another powerhead or try to rebuild that one after I take that one apart and if its ok. Are the 1998 mercury 225 efi good motors or should I spend the money an buy a 250 pro xs?

Here is what I know as I just went through this with a 175 EFI. I have rebuilt a lot of outboards. But when my 175 blew up a couple weeks ago I decided to go to my local shop to get a quote. They told me they would replace the powerhead and it would cost $6500 total. If I rebuild the motor myself it would cost me $500-$800 in parts. If I swap the powerhead myself the powerhead would cost $4500 plus a core charge. Hope this helps.
