What a great site! I've been looking for a support group just like this. I got into old aluminum boats about 7 years ago and have been hooked ever since. My count is currently up to three: 1960 Sea King 14v, 1965 Starcraft Jupiter and 1986 Starcraft Islander 221V. The Jupiter is in original condition (nice), but the Islander is a project. Your information has been very helpful with steering me through the transom rebuild. 25 man hours, turned out cherry. Two sheets 3/4 marine ply laminated and coated with West System epoxy. New motor and outdrive installed, just details left to do. Thanks for your help.

Fastwin welcome to the club. Sounds like your a member three timed over, nice armada you've got going over there.

That Islander is probably a great rig for Erie walleyes:D

Looking forward to seeing some pics of the rigs.

Here are the picks....thanks for the photobucket tip.

The 1965 Jupiter was the first.

The 1957 Super Duty was purcahsed refurbed and sold to buy the 1967 Juptier. The 67 Jupiter was traded for the 86 Islander (basically for the hull and trailer).

My wife thinks I have issues, but it beats blowing it at the track.

Happy Holidays!

Re: May I join the club?

The Merc in the photo is a 1965 500. Factory specs on the comp, runs strong and idles like a dream. I really like these old Mercs. One day in my travels I stumbled across a back up motor same year (less than 100 serial numbers apart). I put some fuel to her and plugged in the harness and she fired right up. Nice piece of mind, incase I need a hard to find or expensive part.

I enjoyed seeing your pics. Put in bay brings back memories of many years ago.

I once flew in on that Ford tri-motor to bring back a Lyman to Cleveland. I've also hunted that island for pheasant and those little black squirrels.

Fastwin, you have a nice fleet of boats there. I was wondering though if those convertible tops are original? If not where did you get them. My 14ft Speed Queen needs something like that.

Re: May I join the club?

Thanks for the complement. The tops on the Jupiter's are original equipment. They wear like iron. Well worth investing in one if you can find one. Starcraft didn't go cheap when they specified material and construction on their tops. I keep my eye's open and if I come across one I'll post the info.

Re: May I join the club?

Hey Fastwin, how about putting both engines on the boat ??

I might be able to get you a old style dual Merc Throttle, though you're better off with a newer style (internal issues) Then you'd have a live backup, and more power/speed.. unless you already have a kicker.

Thanks Fastwin, I really appreciate that. Hopefully somebody has one somewhere that they aren't usung.

Kainon-

As crazy as this might sound I was thinking of taking the one off the boat replacing it with later model (maybe a 40 Johnny) then finding a 18-21 center console and making up kind of a retro-offshore with the two Merc500's. Don't worry, I'll send pics if this pipe dream ever launches.

P.S. I'd love to see a pic of one of those dual throttles you mentioned. I've never seen one. My plan was to bolt two MerControls together. Might be a little tricky to sync the RPM's, but a lot of fun trying.
