I just installed a set of MaxxHaul 70460 12V LED Trailer Tail Lights. I'm just wondering if its better to unplug them before putting the boat trailer in the water? Or do they last just as long if they kept plugged in during boat launching? With the old bulbs I did have to unplug them each time because they would pop if I didn't.

no reason to unplug them, there's no thermo shock since the bulbs don't get hot plus they're sealed.

Thanks for the info. I wish I would have done this years ago. I did have a lot of difficulty with the old bulbs, half the time one side wouldn't blink so I would have to take them apart to shift them.

This is what Maxx Haul said.

Yes, it is better to unplug lights before putting the boat trailer in the water and the life span of the light will be longer.

According to what I can find elsewhere...

70460 - waterproof, not submersible.

From the install photos I've seen, they're primarily on utility trailers. So....probably best to unplug them per manufacturer recommendation as what's needed on a boat trailer is submersible.
