Sometime back I asked a question about a homemade pontoon boat that somebody where I live made. As stated in previous post the person who created the pontoon created these square/rectangle toons. Well I took all the advice here and found some good used toons for $500 and I just recently switched them out myself. I love LIVE OAKS they make great hangers for pontoon top/floor.

Well before I switched out the toons, I installed an Evinrude 150HP on it to see if it would get those square/rectangle toons on plane with zero luck. I don't think a 500hp would have done the job neither.

Well I decided to keep the Evinrude 150hp on there as it runs great but IMHO its just too fast for me. I only wanted to get up to maybe 25mph max, not 40-50MPH.

This motor is a V6 and has the power packs on it with the advance timing at the top. All I know about this motor is how to rebuild the carbs which I already did, the wiring and start it.

I looked and don't see a screw anywhere that limits my max throttle. Am I missing it or is this one of those motors you cannot limit the max throttle and have to do it manually? I'm a Mercury and Yamaha person, I can tell you anything about them but Evinrude I am new to even though I've been dealing with outboards since 1996.

Thanks in advance. If you need photos I can upload some.

well in theory OB's are meant to be and like to be run like wild horses.

it helps reach proper temperature, burn fuel properly and spitt out exhaust carbon gunk that can develop and accumulate overtime.

if you plan on limiting the top RPMs to just slow down you may be creating a problem.

my understanding anyway.

Limiting the throttle box is probably a better idea.... and limiting full throttle is rarely asked.

Growing up, we always went full throttle and then backed it off some which always helped with fuel consumption.

Gee, most 'toons of about 24 feet only go 22mph with 150HP OBs on them. What kind of 'toon do you have that will go 40-50MPH?

Those super-fast 'toons have hundreds of HP in their engines. A single 150HP motor will not push the average 24' 'toon any more than 25 mph, in my experience.

I love high power boats in a need to get back to the dock fast. Otherwise I am on a full plane at about 3000 rpms.
