I hear about max rpm all the time,I have a 2001 johnson 200 on a 24 foot hydra-sport what do you think the max rpm should be for this setup.I see about 4800 rpm at WOT,it seems a little low to me but motor runs good. How about it,what do you guys think.

Re: max rpm

That's a lot low. It's also very hard on your engine even at cruising RPM. Look for 1000 more with an AVERAGE load.

Good luck!

Re: max rpm

Howdy, Piper. Dhadley said it: that is too low for w.o.t. on that big V6. It's like driving a car up a mountain at 40mph in 5th gear.

You probably need 2" to 4" less pitch in your prop. Go back to the people that sold you that engine and ask for it to be "propped out" to select the correct pitch for your boat and typical load. They should have done that before delivering it.

Good luck.
JB

Re: max rpm

Piper, I fully agree with the other guys. My 2000 22' Aquasport W/200 Oceanrunner came with a 14-1/2 X 19 and tached out at 4900. It progressevly got worse with all my "stuff" on board. I got them to swap the 19 for a 17". Much better, economy, speed, response. Now, 51 MPH (GPS & speedo)@ 5800 RPM. I LOVE MY BOAT!!!
