MasterGuard Hub Kits

Hello. 1st, I'd like to thank everyone who provides the answers to the questions to these posts. Thanks to you all and a Clymer manual, I have replaced the impeller, rebuilt the carb, and set the timing on my 1979 19'Chapparral in-line 120hp MerCruiser I/O. Now it runs great! Now I am looking to replace the prop (the old one is banged up). My question is regarding the MasterGuard Hub Kits. They are supposed to isolate vibration and protect your drive system from shift shock and impact shock. Given the cost to replace the lower drive unit, I'm wondering if this kit is worth the investment. Does anyone out there have any comments, advice, suggestions regarding these kits? Thanks.

Are you referring to the ones used for Hustler brand props?

It is a common phrase in sales info that a rubber hub has the mentioned benefits.<br /><br />It is true - compared to a setup with the prop directly on the shaft (fixed props) or the godd ol' break-pin types.<br /><br />The rubber bush in any prop has this advantage and all modern props use this design. MasterGuard is the same principle only they re-use the same hub for more applications and have a standard for their props. This way they can mix props and hubs and their dealers doesn't have to stock as many varieties. Theortically, you could keep your prop when shifting boats only by replacing the hub (which you'd normally not do as the pitch/dis. 99% wouldn't fit your next boat anyway).<br /><br />So to decide on a new prop, firstly figure out the specs on the exisiting, what you think was the problem with it and what you expect from a new one.<br /><br />Also read the prop stuff referred to here http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=015097 <br /><br />The downloadable book will tell you all about it.
