I have no personal experience using a Mastercraft but do have two friends who have them .... they speak highly of them .... the one issue I've heard both of them mention is they don't feel their boats offer much room to move around in

Well I don't know what your intended purpose is, but in the skiing/wakeboarding world, the TriStar was sort of a failure. It doesn't produce wakes as well as most other DD inboards, and it doesn't make good wakes live the V-drives. It's probably okay as a boat, but it's not exactly coveted by the water sports enthusiast. I would opt for a SNOB or a MC 200 of similar vintage.

Re: Mastercraft Tristar?? opinions please

I have owned three Mastercrafts over the the past 27 years. I always owned a skier model. The tristar was thier first attempt at a bowrider version. The boat didn't have good slalom wakes and wakeboarding hadn't really caught on at the time. The boat is probably made very well and will have no wood in the floor or stringers as they went to no wood construction in 1983. I had a mastercraft prior to buying the current boat I own. The lake I frequent is very large and can get quite rough and the ride of the flat bottom MC beat my family to death. So I went to a deep V I/O for ther ride. Make sure you check the shaft packing regularly as they will leak and need to be replaced on a regular schedule every few years. Welcome to Iboats.

im not an avid wakeboarder.
this is my first boat.
i dont like the I/O cause of the prop being back there and worried someone may be careless and get cut.

plus im just looking for an enjoyable boat,

I think you will love it. Its got the potential for you all to really take of with skiing or wakeboarding, and if you totally love one over the other, you can change boats later. There is no wood to rot, and there is no outdrive to maintain. It is an interesting layout, but I personally have never been in a MC with that layout. The only con I can come up with is on a large lake it will ride rough.

Get it and be on the lake tomorrow!

Also, that boat's value/price will be pretty consistent, depending on the state of the engine and vinyl, for many years to come.

Re: Mastercraft Tristar?? opinions please

ok well i bought the boat.
i went to look at it and for what he wanted i said no way. the outside is nice with a little fading, motor runs GREAT puuuurrrrs like a kitten, but the interior is all cracked up. his original price was 3800, we talked on the phone and he would not go lower than 3500. so when i told him no thank you he said lets work on the price for the interior, he came down to 3000 so i thought and said ok. 2 min later i changed my mind and apologized. he then said i have to get it out of here so 2800, and then i said sold!

its a solid boat. has new bimini top, extra impeller, a tube and kneed board. trailer is in good shape with very minor wear.
with a good buffing and wax job, and interior this boat will be pretty nice.

so here is my next question........ where do i get interior from/?????????
