Does anybody have plans or suggestions for making a mast carrier/mast up and maybe even a single handed mast raising system for my Catalina 22? If not, then what about commercially made products? Thanks, Grooveguy

I'm not sure what you mean by mast carrier/up.<br />As far as single handed mast raising systems, I have seen illustrated in books & magazine articles a method that uses 2 poles attached to the side stay chain plates then connected together to form sort of an A frame. Then a rope is attached to the mast & a series of ropes & blocks, often a modified boom vang is used to pull up the mast. The A frame keeps the mast from swinging side to side while it is going up. Check some old issues of Small Boat Journal(not published anymore, but I've seen them online) or other sailing mags or books. A Catalina 22 should be easy to raise w/ 2 people. I have an O'Day 19' Mariner that goes up easily w/ 2 people & I have done it myself once or twice, but it was an accident waiting to happen without a second set of hands.

Re: mast carrier for a catalina 22

Thanks for the advice. I will check out all those suggestions just as soon as I can (like right now). I am getting to sailing For the first time in twenty years, and back then I was sailing Sunfishes with my High Adventure Explorer Scout Post (Post 806 Lubbock, Tx). Anyway, I just got the boat a couple of weeks ago and have already taken it out and sailed it for the first time. It was easily the best time I've had in ages! I can say that I am happy as clam to join the saing community and glad to see support for novices like myself so forthcoming. So thanks again, see you later, etc. ...
