I was surprised when I was gifted this 1983 17' Marquis and cant find hardly any info on Marquis boats at all....I can't find but like 2-3 pictures of this same year boat online and none look as sweet as this color scheme. I read that Marquis boat company went under in 1982 so this boat might be a special model im not really sure what I got. I really love the look of it but I'm more of a fisherman and I'd tear this thang up fast.
Haha.
Any info on boat, the value, or the history would be greatly appreciated.
New to this site and being a big boat owner and I bet I will learn alot and save alot from yalls help.

Solicitations & offers arent permitted.

Its a generic 80s bowrider, nothing special, so its worth what the motor and trailer are combined, exactly what you paid.for it or somewhere in the middle....

Gut/rehab/resto/resto-mod or sell it off, whatever fits your intended use or lack there of....

Dont be surprised, hundreds of similar posts & topics can be found all over the forum.

Not aggravated, simply follow rules you agreed to when you joined, including no offers/Solicitation.

Unfortunately w very few exceptions, and Marquis isn't 1 of them, 99.9% of old boats are simply old boats, not rare or particularly valuable/collectable, not even the last 1 ever built by a well known sought affer, highly regarded builder.

Got the parts boat free, It is drivable and runs. But the hull is very close to not being safe. Rotted. The Other larson $200.00 I rebuilt the hull. The chap was $300.00 and is fairly solid, I call it my beater boat. Them three are all runners. Parts galore. Also got a 1983 Sylvian, 21 ft for free, It's more suited for lake Superior where I'm at. It's a runner also. All have the mercruiser 140's. Retiring next year so I'll polish up a few of them and only keep a couple.....

Marquis had 2 boat factories back in the day. When they went out of business, one of the former principals bought the Hartsville, SC plant and opened it back up under the the new name Stingray. The rest as they say is history.

If you look at some of their last models, the Stingray resemblance is quite obvious. I believe Stingray's first production used Marquis molds.

They went belly up because of some very bad quality problems due to poor hull laminations.

I believe they went out in 1979. If yours is truly a 1980 (the HIN will tell you) it may be a transition model, or it isnt really a Marquis.

My local dealer was a Marquis dealer and later a Stingray dealer, so I'm quite familiar with the history. My buddy had a defective one and it was returned to the factory for a hull replacement, but it never came back because they closed the doors before they built the new one.

Right now it has no value. If it needs to be restored it will cost you thousands of dollars on a boat that is almost 40 years old. Even restored it will have little resale value.
